What is equity release?
Equity is the legal term for how much of the property you own. Or, to put it another way, the value of the property minus any outstanding mortgage. Equity Release Schemes are mortgages over your property which allow you to access part of the value of your home either as a lump sum or in smaller payments, without selling the property. You must be over 55 to be eligible for these schemes.
