We advise and represent clients with a wide range of housing problems, mainly under the legal aid scheme.

Our aim is to provide a high quality service to individuals who often feel they have no rights against large public organisations. We make a point of carefully supporting our clients through often complex legal processes.

Our particular specialisms are:-

  • acting for homeless people in challenging decisions by local authorities that they are not entitled to be housed
  • acting for tenants defending possession proceedings by private landlords, local authorities and housing associations
  • acting for people facing applications for anti-social behaviour injunctions
  • acting for tenants who have been illegally evicted

We also advise private landlords who wish to ensure that they use the correct legal procedures in evicting assured shorthold tenants.

Many of our clients are referred to us by local agencies such as CAB, floating support organisations, and Age UK. We are widely respected in the local area as the first port of call for housing advice, as the number of solicitors doing this work has dwindled.

We have vast experience in representing clients in the County Court and High Court, and the Court of Appeal.

  • James Durston advised a family facing eviction. James met with mum, making mum feel at ease and relaxed in a very emotional setting… mum believed she would be homeless and out on the streets by the end of the month. James went through the process in language mum and I could both understand, explaining any concerns (nothing was rushed). Most importantly James explained legally what could and couldn’t happen
