Wainwright Walk 2012 - A walk to raise funds to increase access to justice
The Wainwright Walk, which will be led by Justice of the Supreme Court, The Right Hon the Baroness Hale of Richmond, will take place on Friday 9th March 2012. The walk will start at the new university reception, with groups of walkers leaving from 2pm. After a short tour of campus, the route then passes some significant and historic legal landmarks in Exeter city centre, finishing at the Combined Court Centre on Southernhay. The walk will be followed by a drinks reception at the nearby Foot Anstey offices.
This walk will raise vital funds to increase access to justice in Exeter by supporting the work of the Community Legal Helpdesk. The Helpdesk, which is run by the Law School and based at Exeter County Court, provides support and guidance to litigants in person involved in civil legal disputes. With reductions in legal aid availability and the proposed cuts to the scope of public funding in key areas such as family and social welfare, initiatives such as this are becoming increasingly important.
The event is being held in memory of District Judge Jill Wainwright, a friend of the Law School and a member of the Steering Group which envisaged the Community Legal Helpdesk at Exeter County Court.
To register to take part in the walk you will need to complete a registration form for more information e-mail ssis-lawoffice@exeter.ac.uk. Once registered a entry pack will be sent to you containing further information including details of how to raise and donate money. In order to take part, you must raise a minimum of £25, which you can do either through sponsorship or by making a donation.
