ST THOMAS LAW FIRM SCOOPS QUIZ PRIZE
A team from Cartridges Solicitors, based in Cowick Street, has won the annual Great Exeter City Quiz 2011, beating off nearly 60 other local teams including several previous winners of the award.
The final took place 29 September 2011 at St James Park football ground, with the 24 teams who qualified from previous rounds being split into leagues in a football style format. Cartridges' team comprising Penny Scott, Chris Tagg, Cyndy Walker, Vicki Matthews & James Durston, and competing under the name "Westenders", triumphed after a play-off against the three other top teams from the preliminary rounds. They were unbeaten in the final set of 6 fixtures, winning 4 and drawing 2 for a total of 14 points, 6 points clear of their nearest rivals.
Team captain James Durston, a housing law specialist, was chuffed to bits. "After many years of entering the quiz, and several near misses, it's a fantastic achievement for the team to finish top of the tree in what must be the premier local quiz event. It was a game of two halves, and we won both halves. The team's range of knowledge of sport, entertainment, news trivia, and local events was mind-boggling. I was a mere spectator most of the time."
The team members won 5 complimentary Flybe tickets and a prestigious trophy. They hope to defend their title next year "...but it's too stressful for me, I'm going to retire while I'm still at the top of my game", says James.
