Exeter Pride 2011 – come and join in this weekend!
Exeter Pride is back again for 2011 following previous successful years and Cartridges Solicitors will be flying their rainbow flag in support as usual.
Exeter Pride is a celebration of Exeter's lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities. On Saturday 9th April 2011 there is a large programme of events for people to join in to help with the celebrations from Zumba Dance workshops to the Big Debate, so why not come along and join in the fun with us.
Cartridges Solicitors are showing their support again this year with a stall at the Pride Market Place, Exeter Phoenix Centre between 12 noon and 5pm where you can come and meet us, we will be handing out our famous rainbow cupcakes and our LGBT Privilege Cards. We are also sponsoring the free goody bags for the second time.
We shall of course be taking part in the parade through the City Centre, flying our proud banner. The parade starts at 11am from St Sidwell's Centre so come and join in with us or give us a wave.
Bridget Garrood a partner in Cartridges and longstanding member of the Lesbian and Gay Lawyers Association will be having a very busy day taking part firstly in the parade before moving on to the a Legal/Family Workshop with fellow Cartridges partner, Penny Scott and then chairing the Big Debate.
The Legal/Family Workshop about LGBT parenting issues will start at 12:30pm so come along and find out about this specialised area of family law.
At 2pm this years Big Debate will start, firstly with the Equality Bill, sponsored by Exeter University. Alongside Bridget are: Ben Bradshaw MP, Simon Nelson Chair of Pride Bristol and a former Director of London Pride; Dr Deborah Reed the Equality & Diversity Co-ordinator for Exeter College; Jeanie Lynch an experienced former equalities officer with a local authority and Andrew Tobey a local employment law solicitor with Michelmores, who are also co-hosting the legal workshop.
The second debate will be about Homophobia in Sport, sponsored by Devon & Cornwall Constabulary, at 3pm. Bridget Garrood is again Chair and along side her: Dr Lisa Edwards who is currently employed as a lecturer in Ethics and Socio-Cultural studies, in the Cardiff School of Sport at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff; Dr Deborah Reed; Craig Lunt who is currently club secretary for Exeter Lions FC, Devons first and only LGBT-friendly football club; Stephen Cannon who is a Grass Roots Advocacy and Support worker for the Intercom Trust and is based in Cornwall; Simon Hill who is a Police Constable with over 26 years service, he is currently a diversity officer in Mid Cornwall
